In 1968 the very important event occurred: Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. obtained license to the production of robot from the American company Unimation Inc. and produced its first industrial robot.
Since that time Japan began steady motion to become the world capital of robots - with it is more than 130 companies, involved in their production.
Originally designed in the USA, first robots of Japan were imported in small quantities. Engineers studied them and used in the production in such specific works as welding and spraying. In 70's the numerous possibilities of practical application in this area were developed.
1980 - Commercial start for the robots, produced on the basis of high technologies. The market started to grow from this point, despite of the collapse, which occurred in the economy of Japan, and to the fact that the production (generally consumer electronics) was moved abroad, which influenced the decrease of demand inside the country in the 90's. Gradually Japanese economy recovered, and since 2003 there is a steady growth.
Nowadays Japan has 45% of all functioning industrial robots in the world. If speak the absolute numbers, in the end of 2004 in Japan were 356500 functioning industrial robots, in the second place is the United States of America (122000 industrial robots).
Japan also a leader in the world’s export of industrial robots. Annually this country produces more than 60 thousand robots, almost half of them are for export.
